Modern buildings in UrumqiThe beautiful oasis city Urumqi is the capital of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, in the northwest of China. Urumqi means “Beautiful Pasture”. The city has a population of about 2 million people.
The city is located in a green oasis and surrounded by beautiful attractions like the lofty ice-capped Bogda Peak, the pine-covered Southern Hill, the Salt Lake in the east and sand dunes of the Zunggar Basin in the northwest.
In the museum of Urumqi are mummies of Tocharians, which were found at the Tarim Basin.
